All of the kayaks above are sit on top kayaks. We only sell Ocean Kayaks because we have found them to be the most user friendly and durable. When you first hear sit on top you visualize someone sitting on a surfboard, or something of the sort. Sit on tops are similar to regular kayaks with some important differences. You will notice that there is no deck over your knees. Sit on tops also have holes called scupper holes that drain the cockpit quickly if a wave splashes inside, or if you tip your kayak over.

If you tip a sit on top over over all of the water drains out when you turn it upright. Getting back in is fairly easy, you just try to jump over it, and when your body is across the kayak you roll on your back and swing your legs back inside. You must pump out the water before you can get back in a conventional kayak, if you happen to capsize without a spray skirt. Getting back in involves using a paddle float as well. A bit more trouble for sure. However if you live where the water is cold most of the time when you paddle you may prefer a conventional kayak.
