Destin Seasons

Our peak season is from May to September, but we are getting more and more visitors who visit off season.  We have a small contingent of snow birds who come and spend the winter, but for the most part Destin reverts back to a sleepy fishing village in the off season. If you don't have a pressing need to jump in the water, the off season is a great time to visit. You can still enjoy destin fishing during much of the off season. The rental rates on beach condos take a big drop after labor day, and the prices decline a bit at destin restaurants.  You can go to any restaurant and walk right in without having to wait on a table.  You have the beach to yourself, and there are a lot of area attractions that are neat to visit.

Of course most of the beach activities aren't available in the winter.  During the season (May to September), there are activities for everyone who enjoys the beach or the water. You can kayak, windsurf, surf, SCUBA dive, snorkle, fish, sail, or go cycling.  Walton Co. is presently extending their existing bike paths.

Destin Recreation

For those of you who aren't atheleticly inclined, there are dolphin cruises, sunset cruises, and dinner cruises on some of the area boats.  Sometimes we have a fellow from south Florida who offers rides along the beach in an open cockpit biplane.

There are several military museums in the area, The Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, (About an hours drive), being a must see attraction.  The battleship Alabama is at Mobile, Alabama, (3 hours driving), and includes an open air museum.  You will drive by it on the way here, if you take interstate 10.

Of course you can find all sorts of accomodations here, everything from beachfront hotels panama city beach florida, to a mom and pop motel in downtown destin. There are luxury beach houses for rent on all of the area beaches, high rise condominiums, and everything in between. You shouldn't have any trouble finding a place to stay. The demand is high during the season so plan ahead to be sure you get what you need.
